Film Review Finding Foresster
The movie I am reviewing is "Finding Foresster." It’s weird how a city boy can have so much in common with an old man, in this movie you will see and understand their great bond. I think that an audience that would enjoy this film most would be teenagers or adults because they would have a better understanding of the film. Quotations from the film I really liked would be “We walk away from our dreams afraid that we may fail or worst yet: afraid we may succeed.” I liked this quote because it is very significant to the theme of the movie. Another quote would be “Write your draft with your heart and re-write with your head.” I like this quote mainly because it is inspirational.
This film was produced in 2000, by the production company Columbia Pictures. Main actors are Sean Connery and Rob Brown. In this film 16 year old high school boy Jamal who is black is a very intelligent writer trying to fit in. He gets offered to a private school but can’t really afford it due to his father leaving, him and his mother. He gets his acceptance from basketball and he finds a man interested in his writing. He breaks into an old man’s house who is known as “The Window” as a dare and reads his journals. He finds out that “The Window” is the author of the book Foresster. His teacher Mr Crawford tends to give him a hard time, maybe because he is a failed writer.
I think this movie is similar to "To Kill A Mockingbird" because William Foresster is similar to Boo Radley he stays locked up in his house and never comes out. A lot of people think William is scary grumpy but really he is harmless man just like Boo Radley. The actors in the film Finding Foresster made the movie more enjoyable. It seemed so real, the movie would definitely would not be as good as it is without the actors because they fit their roll so greatly. Jamal Wallace and William Foresster are the main character and they are complete opposites yet they have an amazing bond no one will understand. William Foresster is an old man who is known as “The Window” and he has disconnected himself from society and stays locked up in his appartment. Jamal enjoys visiting William and comes back even though he is told not to, he later on finds out that he is an author. Jamal convinced William to come out of his apartment and face the real world and show him that it is not that bad. Another thing is the music/sound effects in this movie are really effective to the tone of the movie which makes it more enjoyable.
The main message of the film is attaining your dreams and holding onto them because in the film William is helping Jamal with his career and he shows him to not give up on the world before it gives up on him because that is what William did and he became a recluse and realized his failures but were able to get over them. The film makes me think I should hold onto any dreams I have and to not give up on the world or i’ll become a recluse like William.
